Sending portal invites

How the invite email works, what the client sees, and how to resend.

How it works

The portal invite is a branded email — your accent color in the body, and a unique portal URL for that client. They click the link and land directly in their portal, where your logo is front and centre. No account creation required. Growth and Founding plans can also hide the small “Powered by Onboardl.io” footer entirely.

Prerequisites

  • The client must have a primary contact email set. Edit the client to add one if missing.
  • Emails always go out from our sending domain (currently hello@onboardl.io) — that's what appears in the From line. To route replies to you, Reply-To is automatically set to your admin login email, prefixed with your Sender Name (from Settings → Branding → Sender Name). When your client hits reply, their draft opens addressed to something like “Your MSP <you@yourmsp.com>” — landing in your inbox, not ours.

Sending it

On the client's Overview tab, find the Client Portal card on the right side. Click 📧 Send Invite. The button is greyed out if no contact email exists — set one and try again.

If the client never gets it

  • Check spam — first emails sometimes land there before the recipient marks "not spam".
  • Copy the portal URL from the Client Portal card and DM/text it to them manually.
  • Use Preview Portal from the same card to see exactly what your client sees — useful for support calls.
